Hello
My name is Michael Bostic. I graduated in the spring of 2011 from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture. I then accepted a position at SmithgroupJJR, and spent the past 5 and a half years working there as a site designer and campus planner. I recently left the firm to seek out a more creative and fulfilling role, and believe that I may be able to find exactly that at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates.
I appreciate the detailing, plant textures, and the contrast of natural and forged materials used in projects designed by MVVA. I am intrigued by the seamless integration of sustainable systems and the social equality brought about in the spaces that you and your colleagues have helped shape. The forthright, original, multidisciplinary design culture at MVVA is compelling. We are, in large part, products of our environment, and I think that I would like to be a part of the design studios at MVVA - to apprentice and to learn from those who create spaces that enhance the human experience and remind us of nature’s beauty, respite and ecological purpose.
I believe that I would be a valuable member of MVVA. I am a tremendously hard worker. In fact, upon graduation, my classmates at MSU gave me the Most Likely to be in Studio Right Now award. I also received the 2011 ASLA Student Honor award from the Michigan Chapter of ASLA. I sweat the details, draft with integrity, and take pride in keeping clean and organized files. While in school, I worked for the university’s three landscape architects at the MSU Engineering and Architecture Department, where I developed a strong foundation in engineering principles and AutoCAD best practices. I've also cultivated a strong design sense over the years and am seeking an opportunity to put it to practice. I believe that I have great potential and am eager for the chance to work, learn, and grow with some of the best designers of our time.
